About Ikosi Isheri LCDA

Brief History

Ikosi-Isheri LCDA is one of the 57 Local Government and Loca Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State, Nigeria. Strategically positioned, it is bordered by Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Kosofe Local Government, and Ikorodu West LCDA. Historically significant, IkosiIsheri is often referred to as “the first Lagos” due to its role as the initial point of entry for business people transporting goods and services into Lagos.
Politically, it is delineated into seven wards, each associated with various communities and rich cultural heritage, ranging from:

-Ward C. Ikosi Oke
-Ward D. Orile Ikosi
-Ward E. Orile Ketu
-Ward F. Maidan Agiliti
-Ward G. Kiokio Idera

 

This structure has Fostered a strong sense of community and cultural identity among the residents.
The formation of ascentral -Isheri LCDA was created during the tenure of our visionary leader, former Governor of Lagos State and now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR). His leadership set the state on a path of sustainable development and communication enrichment, laying the foundation for future progress.

 

A critical figure in our history is the first Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Adekunle Soname. His leadership from the inception of the LCDA was instrumental in ensuring a peaceful and effective administration, setting a standard for governance and development. His tenure facilitated a smooth transition from one administration to the next, culminating in the inauguration of the current administration in January 2020.

 

Under the current leadership of Mayoress Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA has continued to flourish. Her administration has undertaken numerous projects and programs that have significantly improved the lives of residents, ensuring they benefit from the dividends of democracy.

Land Area

Ikosi Isheri LCDA covers an approximate land area of 8 square kilometers, comprising both urban and semi-urban regions. These areas are characterized by a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial zones, contributing to its dynamic environment.

Predominant Languages

The predominant languages spoken in Ikosi Isheri LCDA are Nigeria major language (Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo). Awori language is the indigenous dialect of the residence.
The multilingual nature of the community fosters inclusivity and effective communication among its diverse populace.

Climate

Ikosi Isheri LCDA experiences a tropical savanna climate, with two distinct seasons: the wet season (April to October) and the dry season (November to March). The climate supports a variety of agricultural activities and ensures a conductive environment for residents. 

 

AGRICULTURE:

Despite Not having vast lands for farming, Ikosi-Isheri has emerged as a hub for agricultural commerce. Our bustling markets have become a convergence point for farmers from surrounding areas, who bring their fresh produce to sell. This has not only created a vibrant marketplace but also:

– Contributed to the local economy through agricultural trade 

– Fostered partnerships between farmers, suppliers, and consumers 

Our markets have become a testament to the resilience and innovation of our community, proving that even without vast farmlands, we can still thrive in the agricultural sector.

Commerce is a significant driver of Ikosi Isheri’s economy. The area hosts numerous markets, shopping centers, and business hubs, facilitating trade and entrepreneurship. The local government has implemented various programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), We also provide an enabling environment for the big industries, contributing to the economic vibrancy of the LCDA.
